Art for Parents and Me
SPEAKER_00And we're back with another episode of Unlocking Huntington Beach. What's going on? My name is Lane Stone, and of course, we have another good one for you today. We're going to be diving into Art for Parent Me, the free financial literacy workshop, some awesome Sunday night specials, and we're going to talk about safe and sane fireworks in Huntington Beach for 2026. So let's dive in. We're going to start with the Art for Parents and Me. If you've got little ones at home and you're looking for something that isn't just another playground run, well, the city's offering Art for Parents and Me at the Edison Community Center. And this class is designed for ages two to five. And it brings parents, grandparents, or caregivers together with kids who create art side by side. So they use different styles too. So there you go. Save some space on your refrigerator. So put the art on the refrigerator when you're done. Find something to do if you're looking for something for your toddlers. And the upcoming sessions, they run from on Wednesdays, March 15th through April 15th from 8:45 to 9:30 again at the Edison Community Center over there on Magnolia. If your child is two to five, again, two to five, this could be a really great addition to your solid routine or something to do if you guys are looking for something to do for that age range. Now, of course, for our adults, if you're not a toddler, this one is for you, but still staying in the art space. It's oil painting one is the name of the class. And uh it's at the Huntington Beach Art Center. It's for ages 18 and up. So whether you're a beginner or just want to hone your skills, uh, this class covers all of the basics of oil painting. So you've got materials, the value, the introductory color theory, and the essential foundations to paint just about anything. And uh it's on Tuesdays from 5:30 to 7.30 and it begins March 24th through April 28th, again at the Art Center Studio on Main Street. There is a cost for this one. The cost is$206 with a$30 material fee uh due to the instructor at the first class. But again, if you want to get that creativity on, if you want to get that art on, if you're like me and you are just you have no artistic ability whatsoever, and you want to just learn as a beginner uh and you're 18 and older, that would be the one for you. Okay, and let's move on to another segment, and we're gonna be talking about a free financial literacy workshop. Um, so if you've ever wondered, you know, hey, I should probably get better with money. This is a free workshop you should really consider. Uh the Huntington Beach is partnering with Orange County United Way for free financial literacy. The upcoming topic in April now that'll focus on understanding credit cards, credit reports, and credit scores. Uh, there are articles that I've been reading recently where it's talking about how people are taking on additional credit debt. So, what can you do to reduce that debt? What other options are available to how do you understand some of these interest rates that have, you know, over 20% credit card debt? This is a workshop that you're going to want to consider is completely free. And we will also have a link in the show notes of how to learn more for the financial literacy workshop of Huntington Beach. It's always great to understand that the Huntington Beach is looking out for us in these particular areas because, you know, when we went to school, they didn't have any classes like this for us in school. They weren't telling us about credit card debt, financial assets, tangible assets, stuff like that. Like nobody had classes like this. So this is an opportunity for us to learn better as far as our financial um responsibilities. All right, now this is a quick one, but uh we're talking, we're gonna talk about a Sunday night deal happening here in Huntington Beach. So uh if you like BWW, Buffalo Wild Wings, there's the one at the Bell of Terra, they're offering a really cool special from every Sunday, 9 p.m. to close. Now close uh as advertised at 1 a.m. So it still gives you a substantial amount of time between nine and one. They have different specials like 50% off selected appetizers, and they have drink specials like uh$4 tall bud lights or$5 tall stones or uh$3 Colch. Uh but they have they're also doing karaoke. So if you're looking for a late night activity on a Sunday night from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. and you don't want to break the bank, Buffalo Wild Wings in Huntington Beach over at the Bellaterra off Edinger, that is gonna be something you're gonna want to look into. And then we're gonna finish off today's episode talking about a hot topic that a lot of people like discussing every year, and that's our safe insane fireworks for 2026. Now, every year in Huntington Beach, fireworks always go off. We always know it being kind of like a war zone, and you have the illegal fireworks that go up in the air and the safe insane ones. And the safe insane ones are completely legal, uh, and they're legal on Huntington Beach on the 4th of July uh from noon to 10 p.m. only. Uh, anything outside of that window is technically illegal. Um, so and and not allowed. Uh, but there are certain areas that are prohibited as well, like beaches, wetlands, parks, the oceanside of PCH, commercial and industrial districts, and near fuel sources. But what a lot of people don't know are these safe and sane fireworks that are being sold at these booths, uh, they actually are a major fundraiser for local nonprofit organizations. And the city is allowed to uh issue 16 permits uh annually. So um you're allowed to have one city foundation or partner booth, five youth sports organizations, five high schools, and five civic organizations. So when you're buying these safe and sane fireworks that are legal for the city of Huntington Beach, that is going the money and the funds are going to a good cause. And the reason why we're mentioning this now, as opposed to mentioning this in July, is because applications for this uh open up on March 1st, uh, and then they close at the end of March. So you have the month of March to apply uh for these permits, and they're awarded through a public lottery conducted by uh the city clerk in April. So for many youth uh sports teams and community programs, this is one of the biggest fundraising windows of the year. Uh so when you see these booze from July 1st to July 4th of 2026, uh that money is cycling back into Huntington Beach, Huntington Beach organizations, Huntington Beach nonprofits. So it is going to a good cause. All right, and that is it for us this week for Unlocking Huntington Beach. I hope that you enjoyed this episode. We enjoy bringing these to you each week.
